Ten months ago, Stormers prop Ali Vermaak was told he may never play rugby again after suffering a neck injury. On Saturday, he returned to the field for the Varsity Day pre-season clashes.
‘I had to make a decision to go for the operation or call it a day,’ Vermaak wrote on Facebook, along with a video of his journey to recovery. ‘So I went for the operation and through the mercy of God, it was a success.
‘Through all the hard work, determination, pain and belief, I was able to play my first game back yesterday after my operation.
‘But today voel ek soos ‘n trok oor my gery het [I feel like a truck drove over me].’
