Stormers hooker Bongi Mbonambi is set to miss the rest of the Super Rugby season.

Stormers coach John Dobson told journalists after a training session at Riebeek Kasteel Primary School that Mbonambi required surgery on the hamstring he injured in their opening Super Rugby match against the Hurricanes at Newlands.

‘We originally thought it was a partial tear, but after further consultation, we got the news that the hamstring had torn completely,’ Dobson said.
