Recently-retired Springbok hooker Schalk Brits has posted a farewell message after the ‘craziest month’ of his life.

The 38-year-old retired from rugby for the second time after the Boks’ World Cup win in Japan. He then had one last run, for the Barbarians against Wales, off the bench in Cardiff last Saturday.

‘It’s been an epic journey,’ Brits said on Instagram. ‘Unbelievable adventure. Filled with the most amazing people. Strangers who became friends who became family. What an honour it has been. Thank you for your love and support.’

He finished the post with: ‘#nextchapterbegins #whatdoretiredrugbyplayersdo?’
