The Toronto Wolfpack have broken the bank to secure the services of All Blacks centre Sonny Bill Williams.
Williams, who earned 58 Test caps and won the World Cup in 2011 and 2015, has returned to the 13-man code in a deal reportedly worth R45-million a year, which would be a record for either rugby league or union.
The Wolfpack are preparing to debut in the English Super League and believe the 34-year-old will add tremendous value on and off the field.
‘The excitement he will bring to the sport of rugby league in this country will be incredible,’ said CEO Bob Hunter.
‘Sonny is a phenomenal athlete and we believe he is rugby’s LeBron James and his addition to our league is comparable to when David Beckham joined LA Galaxy.’
